Constitutional Convention

More and more, I'm thinking we need a new constitutional convention to lead us out of the morass we find ourselves in. A gathering of representatives for all fifty states. Not the elected representatives, who are already contaminated with the bitterness and divisiveness of politics and billions of dollars in contributions that have poisoned our system. I don't see how that could possibly be any different from the pissing contest we have in DC today. This has to be an independent group of people. Constitutional scholars, legal scholars, and ordinary Americans from all walks of life.

For the sake of argument, let's say ten people from each state. Before we argue that a state like Wyoming will have excessive sway with a small population compared to California's forty or more million people, it needs to be noted that these must not be politicians answerable to electors or voters. These are independent thinkers and scholars, or as independent as is humanly possible.

I'm not smart enough to design their charter, but they must have a charter, mission, goals, etc., and a timeline—perhaps two years.

Their task won't be to rewrite the Constitution totally, but to make revisions where we know there is contention, and revisions that can bring our Constitution into the 21st century.

The task will be monumental, and it must be as free as possible from outside influences by political parties, influencers, special interests, or money.

Since the representatives will be carefully chosen by each state to represent their population, the completion of this task would be deemed to have been approved by each state, thereby expediting the sanctioning of the revised Constitution. This Constitutional Convention would be empowered to update our Constitution. The acceptance of their work would be by proclamation.

Here is the type of analysis and contemplative undertaking I envision would take place in such a convention.

This is an example of the type of analysis, discussion, and yes, debate that would have to take place in an atmosphere of improvement and as free as possible of political and ideological machinations as is humanly possible.
